1. [quote name='BalzOnYer4Head' timestamp='1287717781' post='223'] I had read somewhere as well that it was related to production issues with the BluRay, but that really seals the deal as to what caused the blue ray production "issues". So it has nothing to do with the game, just Sony wanting to protect its crown jewel from hackers and pirates. Lame, you could of just gave it to us in a firmware update the day before the street date. Assholes! I agree with the last statement. It would have been a hell of a lot easier, and created a lot less frustration if they just made everyone download a patch or something on the first day. Arseholes indeed.
2. [quote name='HeroicJayneCobb' timestamp='1287707115' post='217'] id rather not auto-assign; you can get someones home adress that way.. and i dont want people knowing where i live >_< It's not hard to find out where you live ;) Especially when you post photos all over Facebook :P
3. This isn't 100% surprising to me, but the outcome is. Anyone who's ever been hesitant to hand over their keys to another driver, or conversely to get behind the wheel of someone else's car – exotic or otherwise – will want to take note of the following story currently being played out on the internet's extensive web of car enthusiast forums. The story revolves around a Ford GT – one of the finest exotics ever produced by an American automaker – its customization, and its unfortunate demise. The car – in classic Gulf baby blue and orange heritage livery and outfitted with twin turbochargers – belongs to one Ray Hofman, who wanted to have some modifications carried out to make it more drivable in advance of a Ford GT rally event. Having struck out with other tuners, Ray turned to Bill Knobloch of Discovery Automotive, better known to forum members as Shadowman. Bill agreed to carry out the tuning Ray was looking for, handed over the keys, and from there things went downhill in more ways than one. Follow the jump to read on. The driver's account of the situation unfolds on Ford GT Forum as follows: After examining the car in his garage and asking for (and receiving) Ray's insurance and registration papers, Bill (a.k.a. Shadowman) says he took the GT out onto the open road to examine the behavior of the turbo boost. He claims he was driving slowly along the highway when he inexplicably lost control of the car, spun off the road, and the next thing he knew, he was climbing out of a ravine, the car laying damaged below. Bill was briefly hospitalized, but released within hours, after which he contacted Ray (the owner) to let him know that he'd been in an accident. He said he couldn't get close enough to the car after the crash to determine the extent of the damage, but that he assessed that more damage would likely be caused by the tow truck extracting the car from the ravine than had been incurred in the crash itself. He couldn't explain how the car spun out of control, but he apparently noted that this sort of outcome was precisely why he had made sure to arrange the insurance papers ahead of time. The car owner paints quite a different picture on Bimmerboost's forums. According to Ray, he received an email from Bill informing him that he was taking the car out on the road, but didn't hear back from him until the next day when he was informed of the supposedly "minor" crash. With little information to go by, Ray flew out to Los Angeles where Bill's garage is located and where the crash occurred. Arriving at the tow company, Ray immediately saw that his car suffered significantly more damage than he expected. Proceeding out to the scene of the crash with the tow truck driver (who allegedly described that stretch of highway as the local drag strip and the apparent driver as a "pilot"), Ray could see skid marks on the road (contrary to Bill's account) and the broken trees as high as 30 feet in the air. He and the tow truck driver surmised that Bill must have hit a tree on the side of the road, spun around 180 degrees, flown off the highway backwards, and struck another tree, which shattered the transaxle and pushed the engine through the bulkhead. Both driver and owner – as well as the highway patrolman on the scene – agreed that it was a miracle that Bill walked away essentially unscathed from the crash. Unfortunately that's where their thoughts splits. Bill claims that the liability for the damage to the car is entirely the responsibility of the car's owner, and that as a small business, he doesn't carry a policy for such cases. Ray says he gave Bill ample opportunity to make it right, but that Bill deflected any responsibility for having totaled his exotic while adding a personal injury claim onto the Ray's insurance. One way or another, it's quite the mess. For our part we're just glad we're not the ones who have to sort it out. Source (with picture!) What really boggles my mind is how the driver is putting the blame on the owner, and then striking up a lawsuit against him! Why can't people take responsibility these days?
4. [quote name='ODIN' timestamp='1287686085' post='213'] I have the game... I just havent revisited the prologue in a while... have it on psp too. I have it on PSP as well, but it's just so much more rewarding playing it in 1080p on a 46" LCD TV, even though there are only half a dozen tracks and about 70 cars. The sense of speed and power are heightened so much more with the better visuals.
5. I think I'm going to buy this game! Purely for this reason. Some of my favourite gaming moments were from Battlefield Vietnam on PC. I can only imagine this is going to be 100 times more intense.
6. Just read this - more insight into the delay More information is slowly filtering out about GT5’s delay, and it fits in neatly with everything else we’ve learned about the game’s production in the past 24 hours. Here’s what was recently posted by Maximus – a respected moderator at the Blu-Ray.com forums with reported connections to Sony: Like I said it is manufacturing issues. I had it confirmed today. The problem arose when SCE mandated SDK 350 on all games releasing after after October, GT5 was about to go gold running on SDK 341, but it has been delayed by around a week so that they can update to SDK 350. This has caused a big headache for the manufacturing side, given how big this game is missing the gold date by even a week can cause a months worth of delay as slots are already taken up at this time of year for Blu-ray movies and such. So Sony had to find a 3 week slot big enough to make 7m+ copies of this and get them shipped out. If you want to blame anyone, I would direct it at the pirates and hackers, SCE never had any real SDK restrictions before firmware 3.41 was compromised. After getting attention from news outlets such as Eurogamer and TheSixthAxis, evidence of the post has since been removed, but it offers a very reasonable explanation about why Polyphony Digital missed their production window by only 3 days. Sure enough, the new PS3 3.50 firmware is considerably more secure than 3.41 and preventing distribution of a 3.41-compatible GT5 will ensure that it can’t be pirated (for now).
7. We need to recruit more racers. Once the game comes out and we can all race online, maybe that's something we could dedicate some time to.
8. wow...so that's what Red Bull and GT were working on...very nice Reminds me of the Casparo T1 (from Top Gear S10E05). Although the Casparo is fully road-legal and has 2 seats...

10. I agree completely on the track. I picked it for that exact reason. I'm happy with the results of that too considering you have manual transmission, plus I had a 1:00 lap but the back end whipped out a bit too much and hit the wall. Not that i'm making excuses....
11. London (forward) Nissan Fairlady Z Version S '07 Professional physics, no assists 1:01.211 ---------------------------------------------------
12. Next thing you know they'll take my thoughts away m/

13. I'm actually quite happy with that, under a second out. I was pretty much expecting an ass-kicking in this one (and all of them to be honest)
14. I would also like to point out the title of this thread...Odin you noob.
15. I must also note that I use AUTOMATIC transmission when I use the controller...I don't know what it is, but I can't use manual with anything but the wheel. It just feels more natural. Okay, new car/track/time. Eiger Nordwand Lotus Evora Auto transmission Professional physics, all aids OFF. 1:17.280 It's pretty hard keeping the back end in control with all the tight turns and hills/dips.
16. [quote name='BalzOnYer4Head' timestamp='1286763337' post='89'] I like Suzuka, its challenging and a fun track. Im going with a lower class car first to get everyone warmed up. Golf V GTI Driving Physics Professional, All Aids off. Lap Time: 2:34.228 Now someone else post a track, car, and time and Ill work on beating that untill somone beats mine. After 6 laps, the best I could get was my 4th. Just went downhill from there. Golf V GTI Driving Physics Professional, All aids off. Controller driven. AUTOMATIC gearbox. Lap Time: 2:36.629 Lap Time: 2:34.729 Updated with manual gearbox and wheel. Almost 2 seconds quicker. I know I can shave a few seconds off if I use the wheel. I'll have to test it out again when I get the chance. New track/car coming soon.
17. [quote name='kotaco' timestamp='1287494064' post='175'] Feasable but complicated. Right now it's setup with 3 different markers. Blue - Your Pin Red - Registered Members Green - Your Friends To do what you want it would require recoding the entire application, and I just borrowed it so I'm not familiar with the coding of it. The Google Maps API is pretty easy to customize with icons. It's been about 6-8 months since I was developing Maps API stuff but I know there are some relatively easy ways of implementing specific user colour-coded pins. A quick read through the Maps API Documentation shows it. Try here - custom icons and marker manager
18. What a coincidence. I just finished watching an episode. Every day at lunch the IT team takes over the board room and watches an episode. Words cannot describe how much I love this show, yet I only discovered it about 2 months ago. The specials are definitely the best to watch - US Special, Vietnam, Botswana, Bolivia. The only one I haven't seen yet (I think) is the Arctic Special.
19. I'm pretty glad I didn't go out and buy this game. I'm still content just waiting for GT5.
20. Happy Birthday Amanda! Have a great day.
21. [quote name='BalzOnYer4Head' timestamp='1287376030' post='161'] "What matters is that the delay will be a short one and the game will live up to expectations." Ultimately, that is all that matters. False. 5 years and counting. That's what matters. I want it NOW!
22. Hooray for 4am feedings!

23. [quote name='kotaco' timestamp='1287218029' post='152'] dorks I think 'geek' is more appropriate.
24. [quote name='HeroicJayneCobb' timestamp='1287186988' post='148'] the only thing i dont like about online, but i will still play it, is theres 2 differnt controller settings for SP and MP; and no going prone in MP. other than that its decent. No prone in MP? What the fuck? Apparently there are a lot of snipers, but no prone? I don't get it.
25. Brutal game. May as well just stayed home. Looks like I'll really be needing that outdoor practice rink.
