Friends, Homies, Countrymen! (An Introduction)

BOLD Edition

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I came across a mention of the clan on Rockstar Social and wanted to reach out and connect. As a writer and visual storyteller (of narrative non-fiction), I was moved by the mention of how the group came together to support its members during Katrina; so I am here to introduce myself (and if accepted, join you).

A different thread mentioned some clan prerequisites, so i'll fill in those gaps below to help you get to know me a bit better. In the meantime, I'm pleased to have found the group and look forward to potentially gaming with you all.

  • What's your name and age?

My name is Clarence; (the DYKC of my login is short for "Do you know Clarence"); long story, but it used to be my domain http://doyouknowclarence.com. I am almost leveled up to 40 (age).

  • Where are you from and what do you do?

I'm from the south (born), by way of Seattle (where I grew up), and currently live in New England. I call it country-club suburbia because outside of Boston, all the neighborhoods have their own "Mr. Rogers" type of hustle (or Huxtables if you're a Cosby fan)!

  • What's your gaming tag?

My moniker is DYKClarence on PS3

  • What consoles do you own?

PS3, Vita (will get a PS4 when Destiny, The Division, The Crew, Evolve and Secret Ponchos drop later this year)

  • What games do you currently play online?

GTAV when time allows; between writing deadlines and all the research/reporting/filming/photography, etc that goes into my work (plus family and friends), I get my Vinewood shuffle on when I can :)

  • How did you hear about us?

Rockstar Social Club highlighted the group and I was really impressed by what was mentioned about Clan mXm.

  • Why you want to become a part of mXm?

For every reason that is listed as "Primary Prerequisites for Enlistement" by Kotoco plus I am hoping to really be a part of the "social" aspect of gaming.

Especially in GTAV. (I do realize some of you may have moved away from GTA V, but, that is where I'm at right now until later in the year) You want to get together and roll around Vinewood in your latest tricked out auto? Fun! Want to go down to the boardwalk and get your BMX freestyle on? Lets do it! Have an idea to create a fun set of gameplay using the new creator function? Solid; lets work! Ever played phototag in GTA with the cellphones? Its a fun take on deathmatch I hope to try with a solid crew!

Basically, I'm down to have fun; lets run and gun some co-op gameplay.

  • Any other pertinent information or things you'd like to share.

When Jay-Z came back from retirement after the Black album, he did a live session on Jimmy Kimmel's show; he also did a simulcast in Second Life as a digital avatar for everyone who was logged into that realm -- I did the character styling for his avatar to make sure he was accurately represented. I also did the same thing for Talib Kweli, Susanne Vega, and Kurt Vonnegut. Spent some time as a DJ in Second Life and did live shows in-world for Coke and Reebok. I also used to write for fashion magazine. Published in Second Life. About Second Life fashion. Back when SL was something to talk about, I was jacked in every way possible because it was fun :) Try not to hold that against me, but, its always a fun thing to share.

In the meantime, family, be easy and take care.

/C

Clarence,

Very cool stuff you have going on there. NIce to see another fellow VITA owner. I currently play KILLZONE online on VITA, as well as a few other things, but right now I am mainly on PS4 with COD, KILLZONE, and BF4, and still play COD on PS3 if friends are still on there.

I do own all the sports titles as well so whatever you are up for I can hit you up. My PSN is ODlN-5 (the "i" is a lower case "L")

I currently do not own GTA V as I traded it in since its hard to play when you have little kids run around, but plan on buying it back in the near future.

Welcome to the forums and hope to see you around and online.

Chad

Another fantastic intro. Nice to meet ya Clarence. Thanks for stopping by our little humble community and saying hello. We will be sure to get out some friend invites on the PSN.

A lot of us are in a holding pattern for a good game to come out, and we are heavily anticipating H-Hour, and some of the titles you mentioned above. We really should have a GTAV night, as I have hung on to the game in anticipation for the DLC.

'preciate the all around solid welcome! I've sent everyone a connect on PSN (I think Kotaco may need to add me directly because he possibly gets too many invites!)

I spent a lot of time in 2012 playing DCUO, but once my league disbanded after a year (in-game politics amongst their core) I knew I had a find a new gaming family. 2013 was a BF3 year for me; but you can only run with strangers for too long before you crave a bit more familial settings. mXm definitely strikes me as the crew to run with.

H-Hour looks like it could be a great run-up to SOCOM. I spent too many hours in SOCOM 1 and 2 (I just couldn't commit to it anymore once Zipper went off development of the series). Come to think of it, when Infinity Ward stopped with Modern Warfare, I quite playing that series as well. Brand loyalty I suppose!

Let me know if you all get motivated when the new GTAV DLC comes out. Im usually around on Thursday/Friday evenings, late into Saturday mornings. (I also hold down an engineering gig five nights a week on third shift for some extra capital, but can sometimes be found on the grid during the daylight hours if my son is not around!)

/C

P.S. I'm tempted to get the PS4 just so I can talk to you all online, even though we might be in different games. That is one function SONY slept on and the XBOX always had that legitimate social aspect going for it.

P.S.S. Looking through the threads, I'm probably going to fire up some new conversations on different topics. Hope some of you are motivated to come through and participate :)

Thanks Chad! As far as the VITA goes, I've really been investing time in the indie game community. Titles like Drop Kick, Nun Attack, Rocketbird: Hardboiled, Guacamelee and Hotline Miami. Something about the VITA really brings me closer to that indie movement and I've really be appreciating the titles I've come across. They have great replay value. I've been watching some game journalism sites for new indie pushes happening in 2014. PAX East is in a few months in Boston, so I am sure to get another look then as well.

Awesome... I am fully committed to the VITA. I am currently encompassed with Terraria. Think Minecraft in 2D and very well done on the VITA. Hotland Miami is HARD but a great indie game nonetheless. It feels like the early GTA games when they were top down.

Guacamelee is a favorite of mine as I am a big fan of the classic Castlevania games. The new ones are terribly disappointing. Urban Trial Freestyle is the best Trials game on the VITA if you haven't checked that out.

I am waiting on Borderlands 2 for VITA. That has been rumored for quite some time but no street date.

Just so you know, this entire clan is built off of SOCOM. We lived off Socom 1 and 2, and played Confrontation until it ran its course, but really since then, between COD and BF4, while entertaining, nothing compared to SOCRACK, which is why we are excited about H-Hour.

If you haven't been following that game, check out www.sofstudios.com So exciting to know the original socom guys are making this! (talk about brand loyalty)

Yes I currently have my PS4 set to only accept friend requests from friends of existing friends on my friends list. (If that makes sense, that's a lot of use of the word "friends") My name got dropped in multiple places that I had a unique variant of the Buffalo which resulted and still results in me getting spammed with messages and friend invites. So I will send you an invite.

We (as a clan) were born on SOCOM II, that's our bread and butter type game. We are very excited that it will be making a spiritual come back via H-Hour and will probably have most of our hours logged on it next year. Until then I know I'm looking forward to The Division as well as South Park: The Stick of Truth!

Since you all came from SOCOM, I wonder if you ever gave MAG a try before it devolved into a huge game of squads and battalions actually not communicating with each other to accomplish objectives? I really wanted that to be my SOCOM replacement, however, it was all too short lived unfortunately. I feel like MAG had SOCOM appeal and potential though.

I played it for a very short time. I was excited about it since it was "Zipper" but it quickly felt like mass chaos with everyone doing their own thing and a lot of confusion. The maps were forgettable, and the overall mechanics didn't feel right. Then when they took the MAG engine and used it for SOCOM4 was the death knell for sure.

When Socom Confrontation started running smoothly, it actually wasn't a bad game, it was just too little too late. In looking back, as much as the community dogged Slant 6, they actually made a better game than Zipper. When the DLC finally came out, the community was gone.

Yeah I felt Confrontation was actually really well done post patch and even some good DLC. There are things I miss from it when I step back and put SOCOM II on, despite the hate from the "hardcore" community I was actually a fan of side switching for example.

Borderlands 2 on the VITA looks like it will be pretty good. I had avoided the franchise when it first dropped because I was so embedded in some other games; but this looks like the right AAA title for me to push with the VITA. BTW, it looks like "Spring 2014" for the bundle release of the game with the new VITA's coming to North America: http://www.polygon.com/2014/2/10/5399090/new-ps-vita-north-america-borderlands-2-bundle-spring-2014

I did give MAG a solid try. But like everyone else, I could only hang in so long before it just became another game where everyone was out for themselves and not working as a team.

I played S4 for one hour and took it back to the store a few days later. It was awful and so NOT SOCOM it pissed me off. There is a handful of us that get on xlink and play SOCOM2, and some of the community over at H-Hour play Combined Assault, I've been thinking about picking up a used disc as CA is merely a wisp of a memory. From what I hear it has less lag and better hit detection.

Feel free to bring up threads from three years ago, lol, it will give us all a little something more to talk about. :clapping:

SIDEBAR: Kotaco, is it possible for you to add me to the crew online in GTA? I understand if there is a probationary period where you have to actually evaluate how I get down online. :)

Yeah I'll add you, the "probationary period" is more so for general membership to the clan itself, but we don't mind having you on the GTA crew to have a home so to speak.

  • 1 month later...

If you were DC Universe fan, you would think I just suffered an Identity Crisis at the hands of Dr. Light; but I have not. For some time I've been transitioning away from the DYKC/Do You Know Clarence? "branding" that i'd been using creatively for a number of years. Most of that transition is complete, except for my online gaming identity. So, to bridge the digital gap, I will now be using my new creative moniker "BOLD Edition". A new PSN has been created as well; it is "BOLDEdition" (minus the quotes). Please add that? If you've been through my introduction, you're already familiar with BOLD Edition's creative hustle.

My name is BOLD Edition, my voice is my passport; VERIFY ME?

Hello BOLD .... I am not a clan member here but have stopped by here a time or three ...

You seem to mix well with the indigenous fauna that accompanies this dwelling .

Welcome ...

Myself , I kind of quit gaming ... Seems as if I have purchased a PS4 just to watch movies on Amazon Prime .

I was big in to Socom and Never accepted MAG as a viable clan based game to proceed with . I might have had

about 1 hour of game play in MAG . Was not impressed . Mass Confusion ran rapid in that title . Battlefield is

about the same in that respect .

I played a lot of COD ... Doesn't mean I liked it , but it was the only game title that a clan could get together and

actually talk to all 12 members on the team ... Needless to say it was just a way keep in touch with friends .

Any how . good to see there are still some Like minded Socom gamer's still out and about .

Might see ya around on a game title or 2 in the future .
