Captain America: The Winter Soldier

BOLD Edition

Recommended Posts

I caught an early screening of the latest Cap film; being a fan of the Ed Brubaker run on Captain America (I apologize, but it is IMPOSSIBLE to not sound like a comics zealot when you start tossing around your favorite writers/artists in comics and their "runs"), I thought this was very entertaining. The liberties taken did not detract from the narrative at all. This film was faster, stronger, darker, and the fight sequences were really well choreographed.

DISCLAIMER: I had a real problem with Evans' initial performance as Cap regarding his fight scenes. They felt sluggish and lacked power in the first film. He started to pull it together more in The Avengers; I think he really went to the mattresses for this film. Pushing himself to be more comfortable in combat as Captain America (NOTE: I think he is a great Steve Rogers).

I loved how well positioned Anthony Mackie was as Sam Wilson/Falcon. He and Cap develop a great relationship early on in the film which made for more compelling connections later. "On your left", indeed. I hope he gets developed more in the third film, or at least a decent cameo in The Avengers follow-up.

I do wish, that they would have somehow slipped in some throwback to Isaiah Bradley in either of these Captain America films. I realize that a non-comic reading audience wouldn't have understood why there were images or references to "the first captain america" or the black soldier who pioneered the serum that was perfected on Steve Rogers. Still, we all want to see a bit of ourselves on screen from time to time :) No harm no foul that they couldn't work that in.

Did anyone check it out?

I haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but I thoroughly enjoyed the first one and was actually surprised by it as I didn't think it would be as good as it was. If you are telling me this one is better, then Ill def see it.

I was also surprised by the Amazing Spiderman reboot so I am stoked about AS2 coming out shortly. I think Andrew Garfield is a MUCH BETTER Peter Parker than Tobey Maguire.

Summer movie season is just around the corner. Thanks for the details Clarence.
