Forza vs Gran Turismo

So I bought GT6 not long ago and have been playing the shit out of that since I got it.  I've also been a long time GT lover, since the 1st I've had every single one, and the latest offering hasn't broken the mold one bit - and it's great.  It's the same GT feel that I've loved since 1998.

I've also indulged in Forza 2 when I got my first Xbox 360, and Forza 4 again when I got my second Xbox 360.

After playing GT6 and Forza 4 at the same point in time lately, I've come to the conclusion that I really love Forza so much more than Gran Turismo.

Forza just seems like it has more passion for cars.  GT does have more cars and tracks, but I've often found myself going through the car dealers page after page looking for a car that I really want to drive around a track.  With Forza, I often find myself having a hard time figuring out which car I want to buy to take around the track.  Sheer numbers don't mean shit when you don't have important cars from history, ones that ignite passion in people.  You can't rely on pure numbers or gimmicks like the lunar rover or Schwimmwagen.  Just before I race, I love the fact that in Forza I can choose the car that I want to drive first, then decide which race to undergo to advance career mode, not the other way around.  It just seems like Forza puts the cars first more so than GT.

I also love the way modifications are done to cars in Forza.  There isn't a huge difference between the two in the core concept of adding parts to your cars, but it's things like allowing engine and drivetrain swaps that just push Forza forward that much more.  They've also done a much better job at calculating performance points of the cars.  It blew my mind when adding race tires to a car didn't up the performance points in Gran Turismo, and instead they opted to limit which tires you can use based on the race series you're about the take part in.  Not necessarily a bad thing, just a different route, but I don't agree with limiting particular parts allowed on the car you want to drive.

I know all this has been said time and time again by other people across the interwebs, but playing these games again recently made me realize that PlayStation really needs a racer that does more for auto enthusiasts than what GT has done.  It needs a new champion.

I agree. Like you I have played them all, most to completion. However lately I have not been compelled to finish em out like I did the first three (as much as you could in the one with the glitch that left you at 98%) Like you I have also noticed how they completely ignore so many cars that were awesome in their own right. I couldn't believe they didn't have a Mk2 GTI in the game! Mk1 given but all VW enthusiasts know the Mk2 was the best.

Other notable missing car is the 87-93 Foxbody Mustangs. They have every kind of Japanese car from the 90's in all seven hundred variants, but not the Mustang? What about the Shelby Daytona Coupe (Chrysler) or the Dodge Omni Turbo?

I am just done with the XBOX though. Unless something really mind blowing comes out for it, I am done with Microsoft gaming consoles. I'll just buy the pc version and use a Dualshock controller.

The PS4 really does need to push it to the next level. What that level is, I am not sure, but it needs to go there.
