We firmly believe that the best game development ideas can come from anywhere and anyone, and as the brand that stands for gamers, we want to make it easy for gamers to step outside of their comfort zones and experience these new types of games.

Tonight at our E3 Press Conference, we announced more good news for gamers: with the help of our amazing Worldwide Studios team and third-party partners, PlayStation is introducing a robust catalogue of Free-to-Play (F2P) games with a goal of offering more ways for gamers to discover and connect with a larger variety of titles and experiences. The PlayStation F2P initiative will give gamers the opportunity to try a variety of games that they may have not otherwise played, at no cost or financial commitment. We’ll leave it up to you, the gamer, to decide how much you want to invest in the game.

The development community was central to PS4 platform development and ultimately has helped us create an expansive library of unique experiences. The F2P initiative is another testament to what makes PlayStation a leader in the industry. From Triple-A blockbusters like DRIVECLUB, The Order: 1886, and Bloodborne to the recently announced free-to-play titles, PlayStation is home to amazing content.

Check out our impressive lineup of upcoming F2P titles below and be sure to take some time off this summer to experience the deep library of games that are calling your name…you know I will!

There are some interesting games coming free to play.  The first one on the list, Guns Up!, looks pretty interesting if you're into strategic games.  It's cross play between PS4, PS3, and Vita via asynchronous turn-based play.

PAIN also looks like it could be a fun time waster as well. It's nice they took their original concept and made it free to play as opposed to the one time fee on PSN.  I'm sure they'll be charging for extra characters and things like that, but as a free to play game, it'll be good to just waste some time with it with the stuff that comes out of the box.

PlanetSide 2 has some great reviews out for the PC version, so hopefully it will be just as good on Playstation.

War Thunder also looks pretty good. It's been available for a week now, but only on PS4.  It's an MMO WWII combat action game. Seems to focus mainly on the aviation aspect, but also incorporates ground warfare too.  I'd be interested to hear what it's like if anyone with a PS4 decides to download it.

I plan on trying out War Thunder as I love WWII air to air combat games. It also has tank warfare and received very nice reviews. PAIN was out on PS3 in the first year and was a good time waster so a port to VITA makes obvious sense as you can play it in short bursts.

I will always wave the flag for the VITA. Its a kick ass handheld system and you can remote play anything on the PS4. I am surprised more people don't have one. Its really picking up steam with Borderlands 2, Killzone, MLB 14, and TONS of indie games like Hotline Miami, Spelunky, and Terraria that get lots of play from me.

I think I play my VITA more than my consoles just because of my lifestyle right now with my daughter being a TV hog! =)
