Rubber Side Up, Man Down

BOLD Edition

Recommended Posts

After a great two days of riding last week, nearly 350 miles of heavy weather in the form of rain, just three days later I managed (today) to crash my motorcycle in less inclement conditions. The crash happened at a fairly low speed (15-20mph) in a construction zone that had wet plates on the road, gravel and those slick white lines you often see. When I went to brake at the stop light my motorcycle instantly went down, pitching me a few feet down the road (sliding on my hands and belly like Big Papi heading for home plate). The left side of the motorcycle is FUBAR and won't be repaired for at least three weeks. No clutch, mirror, shifter. It wasnt rideable. Plus engine and pipe scrapes/damage. I was fully geared so there was no blood and guts left at the scene. My x-rays showed no breaks. Mostly bruising of muscles on my right hand and left knee. I routinely box 12-rounds most weeks (and this felt like 50-rounds of soreness). I will be home for a few days to elevate and ice limbs and deal with any post-crash soreness. So, wheels up, man down. My right hand is constantly being iced (and my wrist). Tomorrow I hope to get on the sticks or maybe just late tonight. I can't tell you how much this annoys me, but still I rise and live to ride another day! Live to ride. Ride to live. Ride boldly ride. That's the nature of my two-wheeled hustle! BTW, I composed this post completely using my S4's speech-to-text option. Technology is great, isn't it? ;) uzuta5ep.jpg Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk

Glad to hear you're okay.  Every rider's fear, dropping the bike.  Two of the worst feelings are losing grip in a corner and locking up the front brakes - as you said, drops the bike immediately.

I've had the front lock up before on gravel road, not a fun feeling. I was lucky enough to keep the bike upright, but it doesn't feel very fun.

'Preciate it, fellas. I have always lived by the notion for any two wheels I ride, bike or motorcycle, there are two types of riders-- those who haven't crashed and those who have. After so long I am finally the latter in both and will wear those like badges of honor. I won't be trying to add stripes to those badges, though whatever comes up, whatever comes out, in the end I'll still ride, boldly ride! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk

One and only time I ever dropped a bike (and myself) was the first ride after a 2 year hiatus.  Forgot the kickstand was down, ended up tripping over a curb and dropping the bike. Broken windscreen, scraped up mirror, bent foot peg.  Other than that, was all good.  Not a serious fall, but wouldn't want to do it again.
