AR15 Build

As promised and smartly recommended by Andy, here are the pics. I took as many as I could without annoying the dude and I will try to describe the process as best I can. Took about three hours, just need my optics now.

Lower receiver blank

Barrel

Gas Tube, Upper Receiver parts, hand gaurds, bolt carrier, misc parts

Tool set

Getting started!

Started with the lower receiver first. Taped up the metal to avoid dinging it when setting in the roll pins. This is the bolt catch that locks the bolt to the rear.

Trigger group. This is the upgrade I got for free because they had to cancel the first class. Nickel Carbon plated trigger, hammer, and bits.

Setting the trigger spring. Just pulled it over the circular ears.

Dropping it into the lower receiver

Hammer and spring

Together with the trigger and other bits. Fairly simple, just a few retaining pins and whacks with a hammer.

Another part of the upgrade, the little diagonal bar keeps the pins from rolling and possibly falling out, causing your trigger group to fall apart. (This is not a common issue, but it was free, so why not)

Upgraded trigger gaurd

Trigger housing group complete with upgraded ergo hand grip. Its got a nice comfortable grip and it is rubberized, so not hard plastic.

Locking plate for the buffer spring tube

Buffer spring tube attached to lower receiver

Collapsible stock

Upper receiver attached to the barrel, and bolt carrier group.

From here it was a little more complicated and I couldn't really take pics of what was going on. There is a gas tube, small metal tube that runs from between the front sight post in the pic above, to the "delta ring" that is right in front of the hand guards in the same pic. There were three holes that had to be lined up for the tube to slide in, and had to use a special tool to align the last bit, as it sits in a vice.

From there it was just a matter of putting the charging handle in the upper receiver, and the bolt carrier group, slap on the hand guards, flash suppressor and attach the upper receiver group to the lower receiver.

I had a ton of fun building it, the class also came with the carrying bag, cleaning kit and a tshirt.

Nice I recognize that spider logo from somewhere, or one similiar to it.

Anyhow, I like it, our PD uses em and they just feel great when clearing rooms and operating in a stack.

I played with one during my SWAT Medic class, but what I used the majority of the time was the M4 (LE Model)

I have obviously thinking of upgrades. The optics I have figured out: http://www.valhallaarmory.com/3_9X42_Ultimate_AR_15_Scope_p/st3942gdmod1.htm

I am also going to switch from the hand guards to a free floating rail system. I want a front grip, but that's all I really want. If anything else it would be a good high lumen flashlight. I just don't want it to get too bulky. I would also not do anything like that wild "camo" scheme on that M4 in the picture Unit posted. I will definitely update the thread as I go along.

I can't believe how inexpensive they are down there. They go from $1300-1600 up here.
It's such a nice rifle though. Very smooth, very little recoil. If you can't get tight groupings, there's something wrong.
Balz, definitely keep this thread updated as you go. It'll look awesome with a front grip and those optics.

You'll see everything in 1080p

LOL @ Andy

I seen that. It looks pretty easy to do, but I am terrible at soldering. Just big globs of molten metal everywhere.

I could see uses for it at work. They are always putting up balloons for some damn thing or another, and I could just see the looks on peoples faces when I pulled that out, fired a laser that popped a balloon! I would definitely be fired, and would have to prove that it wasnt a weapon, as to not be arrested as well. AHAHAHAHA Just walk through the floor like a madman but instead of going postal on people, I have a LASER going postal on balloons.

Fired for sure, that would be a last day I won the lottery kinda stunt.

If you could do it without being seen, just a quick shot and pop, t it'd be pretty funny.

I have ordered my upgrades! I have purchased a bottom rail mount, front grip, 3x9 scope, red dot sight, extra magazine, and a tactical sling. I got it all from this place called AR15Outfitters.com. I will snap some pics, before and after once it all arrives. One step closer to gettin this thing on the range and zero'd!
