You may or may not have heard that Sony will be announcing their "Next Generation Portable" gaming system at this year's E3 conference. Up until recently that's about all we knew of the device that's been so lovingly code-named the "Sony NGP."

Recently though, leaked images from unkown sources have led us to believe that the official name of the PSP's successor will indeed be the Playstation Vita, or more likely the "PS Vita."

Brandon Brown posted on Dual Pixels a leak on Sony's website mentioning Vita in the source code, practically cementing the rumor that Vita is indeed the name. He even posted the source code for all to see, so naturally we thought we'd help spread the love:

So Here's What We Know:

The NGP is that it will sport a 5 inch OLED screen with a CPU and GPU that will bring you gameplay and visuals comparable to that of the Playstation 3! The screen will feature touch capability and what's really neat is the back of the device also has a touch pad making the use of the device even more immersive!

What most gamers would be happy to see are the dual joysticks that rest on the left and right of the screen, along with the traditional D-Pad, shape buttons and shoulder buttons we have come to love on the Dualshock controllers. (R2, L2, triangle, circle, up, down.. yeah those buttons.)

Making use of the technology that was developed for the Playstation Move, the Vita will also feature an accelerometer to recognize it's motions, axises and planes to enable you to play games via tilting and *gulp* tossing motions and so on.he handheld for driving games – or tilting a la Super Monkey Ball.

Taking on the features of most smartphones today Vita comes boasting Wi-Fi and 3G internet capability, a front and read facing camera for taking pics and video chat. The internet connection will also allow for the downloading of new games,  which will be stored on flash cards capable of storing upwards of 128 gigs of content.

Games that are currently in development for use with Vita include "Call of Duty, Broken, Gravity Daze, Hot Shots Golf, Hustle Kings, Killzone, LittleBigPlanet, Little Deviants, Reality Fighters, Resistance, Smart As, Uncharted, and WipEout." (list compiled by GameRant) And I believe the ability to run downloadable PS3 games is also a feature although I can't promise it. Many of these titles, some more than others, certainly have the capacity to move a ton of NGPs if they are available on the new flash-based cards at launch.


That's all I got for you so far. I'm actually pretty excited to see this little guy when it comes out and I may just invest in it if it has a decent shelf life. What do you think?
