GRAN TURISMO 6

I didn't see this coming, but for as much time as it took to make GT5, I have a feeling this might be a re-skin cash grab to close out the PS3. If you go to gametrailers.com you can see the video on it. For some reason it wont allow me to post it as I get error messages but wanted to make a thread here about it.

I was thinking the same thing about the cash grab.
From what I've read, it's all the same content plus about another 50%, and using a different physics engine. Nothing more.
I don't think I'll be picking this one up. I still have a LOT of Forza to go.

I don't even know why they did 6 on the three. I am curious to see how the new physics engine is though. I did always feel that it held on to inertia too long. Sure I cooked the tires blasting down into a turn, but once speed scrubs off the tires grip again. In GT they are butter till 20ish mph.

I hate that its for the PS3. A fucking wasted opportunity for Sony as well to have a premium title ready at release of the 4 to guarantee a successful launch.

I think they are betting on DriveClub from the developers of Motorstorm, an in-house studio which I am sure is cheaper for SONY to make. Plus, Polyphony to a ridiculous amount of time to put out an above average title in GT5. It just wasn't as gripping as the others. I agree Randy, missed opportunity much like all this time they could have been developing a SOCOM title to launch with the PS4 to challenge the COD throne. I don't know why they haven't done the research to see there is a lot of value still in a true SOCOM reboot. Polyphony needs to be careful because another so-so GT title could see it dethroned by DriveClub, Forza, and even GRID2 for that matter. We shall see how it all plays out soon enough.

Demo downloaded. Im nine seconds off the record after about 20 laps. I am still fiddling with the abs. The traction control is still wayyyy too intrusive when steering into a slide, causes the car to snap the other direction, and usually right off the track. I have it set to one to help with the ass end wanting to come out when you're hard on the pedal and just slightly turning. You still have to feather it though.

Before you can compete for the GT Academy, you have to race a "shakedown" one lap tutorial (guess) and then you buy, of all things, an electric car as your first car, the Nissan Leaf. The AI is dumb as always and brakes too early for every turn. Breezing through the two event "Sunday Cup" is a snap.

Next up is a 370Z Nissan in a two race "Clubman Cup" same as above, easy peezy.

After that, its you, a semi prepped 370Z, and Silverstone Circuit. You can practice segments of the track, but the only one the competition is based on is the full lap.

Some more thoughts now that I have spent some time with the demo. I have gotten my lap down to 2.26.045. I am struggling to get a better lap as it is very difficult to get the power down in ANY kind of a turn. Watching the fastest Ghost replays, the drivers almost always shift up so the motor is not in the power band and you can control the car better under cornering and acceleration.

I also feel like the physics are different from the third persoon view to the in car view. After the last little chicane there is a final corner that takes you to the straight. Its really two corners. In third person view, if I am in third, and matte the pedal to the floor, it will begin to get the car loose. Contrarily, if I take the same corner, same gear and matte the pedal in the in car view, the car stays planted.

Anyone elses thoughts?

So I got around to playing it. Did the Sunday and Clubman cups. Didn't race the GT Academy races because I hate Silverstone.

I don't like it.

It's no different than GT5 other than menus (as far as I can distinguish from the last time I played GT5), and by today's standards it looks like shit. At least everything but the cars.
I don't think I'll be picking this up - I'm very content with Forza 4 as my go-to game if I want to run some laps.

So the sale was for American stores only.  I checked EB Canada site and it was $39.99...up until last night.  Now it's back up to the original price of $60.

Luckily I could log into Amazon.com with my fake US account and get the digital code emailed to me, so I now have GT6.  Need to download it when I get home, and then the copious patches afterwards.  Hopefully I can play tonight, but we'll see.

Completely understand. My bad man, didnt mean for ya to have to state your financial position...I can certainly dust it off...Andy would probably be up for it too, but I warn you, he likes to use other people as brakes.

It's all good; I'm not that great at the game. Andy and I can fight it out for last place.
