PS4 - Killzone Shadowfall

I got Killzone as a free game from Amazon, the reason I chose it was because I had read it made good use of the next-gen features of the PS4.

I can say after playing it for more than a few hours that is does indeed make great use of the new controller. Rather than having your health on an indicator on the HUD, the light on the DS4 is actually your health indicator, it changes from green to yellow to orange to red and flashy depending your damange in game and regnerates over time. It is a pretty cool feature.

The speaker is a cool way to immerse yourself in game a bit more too, when you stumble upon "audio logs" left by other people in the story line it plays over the speaker and comes across like you're actually listening to a recording your holding in your hands, it wasn't game changing, but it was a nice touch.

The touch pad is used for changing your drone options, you get this little drone to help you do certain things, and can switch it from attack to stun and such with a quick swipe of the touch pad. It isn't intrusive and actually comes kind of naturally given the use of smartphones.

Overall I'm not a big fan of FPS or futurey FPS for that matter, but I find myself enjoying this Killzone game. I've never played a Killzone game so I can't compare it to the ones that came before it, but the story line isn't terrible and more importantly the storyline doesn't seem as linear as most FPS games out there. I enjoy that you can explore a bit and find your own path on some levels, not all, but some.

I haven't touched the multiplayer and don't know if I will, but everything else has been a nice introduction into the PS4 so far, and it will be interesting to see how far things develop in 5 years once devs take full advantage of the consoles potential.

I picked up Killzone over the weekend and I am about an hour into the campaign. It feels good and I enjoy the storyline so far. I have already said how much I love the VITA version. If you guys ever pick up a VITA, grab Killzone Mercenary. I have yet to get into multiplayer as I want to finish the campaign to get a feel of the guns etc.

I also highly recommend Need for Speed Rivals as its a total blast of arcade racing fun. Very pretty as well.
